Officials: 7 Dead After Tornadoes Tore Through Central Iowa

A deadly EF3 tornado struck Madison County, Iowa, causing significant destruction and loss of life. Eight family members were hiding in a pantry, resulting in four deaths and two serious injuries. The tornado, with wind speeds up to 136 mph, traveled 16 miles and destroyed over 50 homes. Governor Kim Reynolds declared the area a disaster zone. Typically, such severe weather in March occurs in the Gulf Coast, making this event unusual for Iowa.
