Matahari, born Margaretha Gertha Zell, was a Dutch exotic dancer who became a spy during World War One. Born into a wealthy family, her fortunes changed, leading her to marry Rudolph McLeod in the Dutch East Indies. After a tumultuous marriage, she reinvented herself in Paris as a dancer and courtesan. Her connections with influential men led to her recruitment as a spy for France. However, she was accused of being a double agent and executed in 1917. Her life remains shrouded in mystery, with debates about her guilt or innocence continuing to this day.
