Capot Beats Palestinian At 1949 Preakness

The 73rd Preakness Stakes at Pimlico featured a thrilling race with nine thoroughbreds. Noble Impulse initially led the race, but Kapat, who placed second in the Kentucky Derby, surged ahead in the final stretch. Palestinian also made a strong finish, but Kapat, ridden by jockey Ted Atkinson, won by a head in record time. The victory earned Kapat a Preakness prize, including several hundred black-eyed Susans and nearly $80,000.
