A woman with late-stage breast cancer was successfully treated using her own immune cells. This marks the first successful application of T-cell immunotherapy for this cancer type. Doctors at the National Cancer Institute conducted biopsies to identify DNA mutations specific to her cancer. They extracted tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) from the biopsies, grew billions of these cells in the lab, and injected 80 billion TILs into her body.
