Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent have announced a merger, forming a new entity named Nokia, based in Finland. The merger aims to combine complementary business areas and geographies. Nokia's current leadership will continue to lead the new company. Following the announcement, Alcatel-Lucent's stock dropped over 10%. The merged entity aims to save $950 million in costs by 2019. Alcatel-Lucent employs 8,000 in France and 53,000 globally, compared to Nokia's 55,000 employees.
