VOICED : Estudiantes chilenos protestan inconformes con plan de gratuidad

Chilean students protested in Santiago against a new education bill, arguing it fails to ensure a truly free university system. The bill maintains the coexistence of public and private universities and continues the current credit and scholarship plans. Students hoped for a deeper reform of the system inherited from Pinochet's dictatorship. President Bachelet had promised to achieve 70% free enrollment by the end of her term and 100% by 2020. The Ministry of Finance estimates that achieving this would require a 1.5% increase in Chile's GDP.
