Dawson's bees are the largest bee species and are solitary, living in individual nests. After mating season, female bees prepare nests for their young and die. The following year, male bees emerge first, competing aggressively for females. This ensures only the strongest reproduce, leaving many casualties. Eventually, all males die, allowing females to construct new burrows for the next generation.
