Hurricane Laura made landfall in Louisiana as a Category 3 storm with winds of 195 km/h. Rapid weakening was expected after landfall. Evacuations were ordered in Louisiana and Texas due to the threat of catastrophic flooding. Rainfall was predicted to reach up to 400 mm in some areas. Storm surges could cause water levels to rise 4.5 to 6 meters above normal. Louisiana's oil refineries and over 100 oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico were evacuated as a precaution.
