Reports highlight the situation in the Panjshir Valley, where resistance forces led by former Afghan Vice President Saleh and Ahmad Massoud are concentrated. Saleh, who served under Ashraf Ghani, refuses to accept Taliban rule and has taken refuge in Panjshir. Ahmad Massoud, son of a famed resistance leader, also opposes the Taliban and seeks US support in arms and ammunition, warning that Afghanistan could become a hub for radical Islamist terrorism. Historically, the Panjshir Valley has resisted control by both the Taliban and the Soviets.
