China reported no COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours after changing the criteria for counting virus-related deaths. Despite a surge in infections, hospitals and pharmacies are overwhelmed, and crematoriums are full. The government ended its strict COVID policies, leading to increased cases and fears of high mortality among the elderly. Only deaths directly caused by respiratory failure from the virus are now counted, excluding many from the statistics.
