VOICED : Venezuela y Colombia acuerdan restablecer embajadores a partir de asunción de Petro

Venezuela and Colombia will restore diplomatic relations at the embassy level starting August 7, coinciding with Gustavo Petro's presidency. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Carlos Faría and Colombian designee Álvaro Leiva met at the border to discuss the reestablishment of embassies and consulates. The countries aim to ensure security and peace along their border. Relations were severed in 2019 when Colombia's outgoing president Iván Duque did not recognize Nicolás Maduro's reelection, supporting Juan Guaidó instead. Since then, consulates have been closed, and the border was shut until October 2021, amid accusations from Maduro against Duque of plotting to overthrow him.
