The Taming of the Shrew Introduction 1 Scene Summary

Sly, a poor peasant, refuses to pay for broken glasses at an inn and falls asleep. A Lord, returning from a hunt, decides to play a prank on Sly by making him believe he is a Lord who has forgotten his true identity. The Lord instructs his servants to move Sly to his bedroom and convinces him of his noble status upon waking. To further the deception, a troupe of actors is brought in to perform a play, and a servant is dressed as a woman to act as Sly's lady. The scene concludes with the Lord's excitement over the elaborate joke.
