Japanese Prime Minister Lifts The Rest Of His State Of Emergency Order

Prime Minister Abiy Shinso lifted the state of emergency in Tokyo and four other prefectures, initially imposed in mid-April. The emergency did not enforce a lockdown but allowed governors to encourage social distancing and temporary closures of schools and nonessential businesses. Public transit and essential services continued. Originally set to end on May 31st, the order was lifted early in some areas due to a slowed infection rate. Despite this, the economic revitalization minister advised residents to remain in their home prefectures until the end of May.
