IRAQ'S SOLE LEPER COLONY

The Lt Lepers colony, established in the 1950s by the WHO, was once home to 200 people but now only seven remain. Residents face severe challenges due to lack of electricity and basic amenities. Despite common myths, leprosy is not contagious and is treatable with antibiotics, yet remains a problem for the poorest. The colony's remote location makes it difficult to receive aid, and their appeals for basic needs like electricity and water often go unanswered in war-torn Iraq.
