Teddy Roosevelt began his political career in New York as a Progressive Republican. He gained fame during the Spanish-American War, leading to his governorship. As Vice President under McKinley, he became President after McKinley's death in 1901. Domestically, he was known for the Square Deal, antitrust actions, and conservation efforts. His foreign policy, known as the Roosevelt Corollary, expanded U.S. influence, notably with the Panama Canal. After his presidency, he ran again as a Bull Moose Progressive, surviving an assassination attempt.
