José Salvador Alvarenga, a Salvadoran castaway, survived 13 months adrift in the Pacific Ocean before being found in the Marshall Islands. Medical professionals at San Rafael Hospital advised against his return to his coastal hometown due to his talasofobia, a fear of the sea. Alvarenga does not suffer from severe mental disorders but exhibits symptoms of PTSD from his life-threatening experience. He has requested privacy from the media to aid his recovery and is currently with his family.
