The Broadway League announced that Broadway performances will not resume until at least January 3rd, 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. New York City's 41 Broadway theaters have been closed since mid-March following Governor Cuomo's ban on large gatherings. The industry had hoped to reopen by mid-April but has extended the shutdown multiple times. While parts of New York have reopened, arts and entertainment will be among the last to resume. Before the pandemic, Broadway was experiencing a golden age, with the 2018-2019 season attracting nearly 15 million patrons and generating significant revenue.
