Iguanodon lived during the early Cretaceous period, approximately 125 million years ago. After the extinction of dinosaurs, people found fossils but didn't understand them until the 19th century. Mantell discovered an Iguanodon tooth, mistaking it for a giant iguana's tooth, hence the name 'Iguanodon'. It was the second dinosaur to be officially named.
