Taiwan drives Chinese warplanes from its airspace

On June 9th, Chinese fighter jets briefly entered Taiwan's Air Defense Identification Zone, prompting Taiwan to scramble jets and issue verbal warnings. The incident followed a USC48 transport plane's authorized passage over Taiwan. The US Navy's USS Russell had recently transited the Taiwan Strait, marking the 7th such transit this year. Reports suggest US electronic warfare aircraft frequently pass the Strait. The Chinese incursion coincided with Taiwan's announcement of its annual Han Kwong exercises, postponed due to COVID-19, to be held in July and September, testing defense capabilities against China's People's Liberation Army.
