Alberto Fernández, the president-elect of Argentina, has left the future of currency control uncertain. After his electoral victory, he visited Mexico and was questioned about continuing currency restrictions. Outgoing President Mauricio Macri had promised a free currency market, but economic conditions led to initial controls by the Central Bank, limiting dollar purchases. Following the election, these controls were tightened to preserve dwindling reserves. Argentines, facing inflation and devaluation, save in dollars, but new measures restrict transactions until December 10.
