This legislation was prompted by deputies sharing photos of the helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant and others. Sheriff Villanueva ordered the deletion of these photos, citing an existing policy against sharing crime scene photos, though it didn't cover accident scenes. Vanessa Bryant has sued the Sheriff's Department for negligence and invasion of privacy. The Act, effective January 1st, imposes fines up to $1000 per offense.
