Parts of the Plant: Leaves

Leaves vary in shape and size but share a common structure designed for photosynthesis. The leaf consists of an upper and lower epidermis, with stomata for gas exchange. The mesophyll, located between the epidermis layers, facilitates water and nutrient transport. Chloroplasts in the mesophyll contain chlorophyll, which captures sunlight to produce food through photosynthesis. Leaf adaptations, such as a waxy surface and spongy texture, optimize this process.
