Michael Carneal, who pleaded guilty to a 1997 school shooting in Paducah, was denied parole. Despite being sentenced to life in prison, state law allows minors a chance at parole after 25 years. Carneal, who was 14 at the time of the crime, admitted to still hearing voices but claimed he has learned not to act on them. The parole board decided he must serve the remainder of his life sentence, making him ineligible for future parole.
