On December 20, 1989, the US invaded Panama to overthrow dictator Manuel Noriega. Sylvan Holtzman, an American lawyer and lobbyist, claims he facilitated the connections that led to the invasion. Holtzman, who was on the board of a Panamanian bank, worked with influential figures like Lawton Childs and Jorge Mascanosa to garner US interest in the plan. After years of effort, the plan succeeded, and in 2000, Holtzman was honored by Panama with the Order of Vasco Núñez de Balboa.
