Anaam, a 60-year-old with pulmonary fibrosis, relies on an oxygen machine. The destruction of Gaza's only power plant by Israeli bombings has left her without electricity, making it impossible to operate her medical devices. The local hospital, running on generators, is not a viable option due to overcrowding. Anaam's family cannot afford a personal generator, which would cost at least $45 daily in gasoline. Gaza's power plant has been repeatedly attacked, and repairs could take a year. The region cannot depend on electricity from Israel, as supply lines have also been bombed. Israel claims the conflict aims to destroy tunnels used for attacks, but these tunnels are also used for smuggling fuel into the blockaded Gaza, worsening the daily struggles of its nearly two million residents.
