In Venezuela, a political clash has arisen over a proposed national census by President Nicolás Maduro's government. The opposition-controlled National Assembly demands its suspension, fearing it aims to confiscate properties of emigrated citizens. The government, however, dismisses these claims as fear-mongering, citing past false accusations. The census will initially count properties and later use electronic codes for registration. The last census in 2011 estimated a population of 32 million by 2019, but the UN reports 3.6 million have migrated since 2016 due to economic crisis.
