World’s largest iceberg may soon break up

Iceberg A68, once the world's largest iceberg, has lost a 175 square kilometer chunk, now called Iceberg A68C. Originally calved from Antarctica's Larsen Ice Shelf in 2017, it was nearly 6000 square kilometers in size. Recent satellite images show it has reduced to around 5000 square kilometers. The iceberg is remarkably thin, being 160 kilometers long but only a few hundred meters thick. After losing a small piece named A68B, it drifted past the Antarctic Peninsula. Now, Southern Ocean currents are pushing it past the South Orkney Islands into warmer waters, where it is expected to fragment further, with some pieces potentially lasting for years.
