Purdue Pharma and owners to pay $7.4 billion in settlement to lawsuits over the toll of OxyContin

Purdue Pharma has agreed to a $7.4 billion settlement to resolve lawsuits related to its painkiller Oxycontin. The Sackler family, owners of Purdue Pharma, will contribute an additional $1 billion to the settlement, following a previous rejection by the Supreme Court. The funds will be used to combat the opioid crisis and support survivors of overdose victims.
