In the early morning, the pilot of Ethiopian Airlines flight ET-702 requested to land in Geneva for refueling. Later, a hijacking was announced via the transponder. The copilot exited the cockpit using a rope and surrendered to the police, revealing himself as the hijacker. Throughout the incident, the situation remained calm, and no passengers or crew were threatened. The copilot, born in 1983 and of Ethiopian origin, claimed he felt threatened in his home country and sought asylum in Switzerland.
