A tsunami is a large wave caused by the displacement of water due to events like earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, or underwater explosions. These waves can be much larger than normal ocean waves and are often catastrophic. Tsunamis have long wavelengths and can travel quickly, increasing in height as they approach shorelines. A drawback, or receding shoreline, is a warning sign of an incoming tsunami. Safety measures include moving to higher ground. Tsunami prediction is challenging, but systems with pressure sensors and expert analysis can provide warnings.
