Nicolás Maduro visited the opposition-led Venezuelan Parliament for the first time in 17 years, delivering an account of his governance amidst a severe economic crisis. He accused the opposition of plotting a coup but acknowledged their presence, expressing hope for democratic culture. Prior to his appearance, Maduro declared an economic emergency, with the Central Bank reporting 108.7% inflation from January to September 2015. Maduro believes socialism is the solution to the economic turmoil.
