North Korea has decided to sever its political and military communication channels with South Korea, as announced by the state agency KCNA. This decision follows threats from activists to launch propaganda leaflets across the border, criticizing North Korea's human rights record and nuclear policy. In response, North Korea has organized large-scale rallies to support its threats. Despite three summits in 2018 between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in, relations remain stalled. North Korea ended most contacts with the South after the failed 2019 summit between Kim and U.S. President Donald Trump in Hanoi. The situation may escalate as South Korea pays little attention to North Korea's threats. The two Koreas remain technically at war since the 1953 armistice.
