During World War I, Marie Curie recognized the potential of x-rays in diagnosing injuries. However, the scarcity of x-ray machines posed a challenge. To address this, she innovated the concept of mobile x-ray units, which could be transported between hospitals. As the director of the Red Cross Radiological Service, she secured funding and resources to convert vehicles into mobile x-ray units, known as Petit's Curies. She also trained personnel to operate these machines, significantly aiding medical efforts during the war.
