Operation Glory marked the beginning of the exchange of war dead between the UN and communist forces, involving 4,000 American and UN soldiers and 14,000 communist dead. The process included memorial services led by Eighth Army Commander Maxwell B. Taylor and the transfer of bodies from Korea to Japan for identification and final burial. South Koreans honored the Allied soldiers in Seoul, and the journey continued through Pusan. Ultimately, the heroic Allied dead were returned to their homeland, having died defending democracy.
