VOICED : Asesinan a concejala de partido de izquierda PSOL en Rio

Marielle Franco, a councilwoman from the PESOL party in Brazil, was assassinated in Rio de Janeiro. Known for her activism in human rights, she was returning from an event on black women's empowerment when she was shot. Franco was a prominent political figure, having been elected to the Câmara Municipal in 2016. She grew up in the violent favelas of Rio and held a degree in Sociology and a master's in Public Administration. Recently, she was appointed to oversee the military's role in Rio's security, a measure enacted by President Michel Temer. Her death sparked outrage, with PESOL and Amnesty International demanding a thorough investigation.
