Alex Haley: Author of 'Roots' and 'The Autobiography of Malcolm X'

Alex was born in 1921 in New York. He joined the Coast Guard in 1929, where he began writing. Despite rejections, some of his work was published, motivating him to continue. After two decades in the Coast Guard, he pursued writing full-time, co-authoring Malcolm X's autobiography and achieving success with 'Roots', a book and mini-series chronicling his family history. Despite controversies over plagiarism and inaccuracies, 'Roots' remains a significant work in African-American history.
