Keeping livers in warm storage improves transplant success, trial finds

A clinical trial published in Nature found that preserving livers at body temperature, rather than in cold storage, improves transplant success. The trial involved 222 liver transplants across seven European medical centers, comparing cold-stored livers to those connected to a perfusion machine. Results showed 50% less tissue damage and higher success rates in warm-stored livers, with fewer warm livers discarded compared to cold ones.
