VOICED : CPI abre examen preliminar por presuntos crimenes en Venezuela

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is set to investigate alleged crimes in Venezuela, focusing on excessive force by state security and violence by protesters. Over 120 people died during anti-government protests in 2017. Former Venezuelan Attorney General Luisa Ortega submitted extensive evidence to the ICC. On the same day, the European Parliament called for extended sanctions against Venezuelan officials, including President Nicolás Maduro and Vice President Tarek El Aysami, as well as the state oil company PDVSA. The EU had previously imposed an arms embargo and asset freezes on Venezuelan officials.
