Ghost nets explained

Ghost nets are strong plastic nets lost or discarded at sea, floating with ocean currents and trapping debris, fish, and crustaceans. This process, known as ghost fishing, attracts larger predators like turtles, sharks, and dolphins, which become entangled. When nets become too heavy, they sink, restarting the cycle. Ghost nets also damage reefs and introduce invasive species. Decomposition reduces their weight, causing them to float back up and continue the cycle.
