India: Geographical Regions

India is divided into five geographical regions: Northern Mountains, Indo-Gangetic Plain, Thar Desert, Peninsular Plateaus, and Coastal Plains and Islands. The Himalayas influence India's climate and water supply. The Indo-Gangetic Plain is fertile and densely populated. The Thar Desert is arid with a semi-nomadic lifestyle. The Peninsular Plateaus are diverse with rich biodiversity. Coastal Plains and Islands feature deltas and monsoonal climates.
