Robert Mugabe was welcomed with music and a full stadium as he assumed the presidency of Zimbabwe for the sixth consecutive term. He took an oath to uphold the constitution and laws of Zimbabwe. Mugabe won the presidential election with 61% of the votes, while his opponent, Morgantz Bankiray, contested the results and did not attend the ceremony. At 89, Mugabe returned to power, a position he first held over three decades ago.
