The Santa Rosa Cemetery in El Callao, near Lima, is a unique place where the living and the dead coexist. Established in 1912, it has become a refuge for 2,000 families living among the graves. Known as the cemetery of the poor, it offers affordable burial options compared to private cemeteries. However, due to health risks, authorities have recently closed it. Many cemeteries in Lima and El Callao operate informally, with only 18 out of 50 being legal. These informal cemeteries are often located in poor, peripheral areas.
