IRS Wants Stimulus Checks Sent To Dead People To Be Returned

The IRS issued stimulus checks based on 2018 and 2019 tax returns as part of a coronavirus relief package. Some checks were mistakenly sent to deceased individuals, and the IRS requires these payments to be returned. If the deceased filed jointly, only their portion needs to be returned. The IRS has provided instructions for returning payments and clarified that incarcerated individuals and undocumented immigrants are not eligible for the relief payments.
