‘Coral IVF’ could restore damaged parts of Great Barrier Reef

Researchers at a university have developed a technique called coral IVF to restore damaged parts of the Great Barrier Reef. They capture millions of coral larvae during mass spawning events and coculture them with thermally tolerant algae. These corals are nurtured in specially designed nursery rear pools, which enhance their survival chances. Optical sensors monitor their progress, and the corals are eventually dispersed into damaged reef areas to form new communities.
