US Intervention in Nicaragua

In the early 1900s, a region of 50,000 square miles was a focal point of political upheaval and revolution. The Liberals, led by Jose Santos Ayala, were in power but not recognized by the US. Tensions escalated when two Americans were executed, prompting the US to send naval forces. This intervention led to the defeat of the Liberals by conservative revolutionists. In 1910, Adolfo Diaz, who was pro-American, was elected as the provisional president, marking a shift in power.
