• They wanted to show the men that they could do a better job.

Why wasn't life in the village peaceful anymore?

• The men were mad that the women were now allowed to do men's work, like hunting.

• The kids always had fights with the adults.

What does it mean when the author writes, "...more than the burden which had fallen upon us all, it was the memory of those who had gone that burdened us now.

• It means rain was falling on the people in the village.

• It means people were very sad about all the people who had died.  The burden was their sadness.

Where did Kimki decide to go?

• He decided to go hunt sea otter and took his canoe east to go look for them.

• He decided to take his canoe and head east to try to find the country that was there - he wanted to get help because everyone was so sad on the island now.
