Singular and Plural Possessive Nouns is a free printable English worksheet for Grades 5–6 that helps students distinguish singular nouns, plural nouns, singular possessive nouns, and plural possessive nouns. It includes 9 multiple-choice questions in which students identify the target noun within complete sentences, including examples such as dog’s, nurse’s, ladies’, year’s, children, women, and bass. The questions also include “none” options when a sentence does not contain the requested noun type, helping students check every word rather than choosing an answer based only on apostrophe placement. Students practise recognizing singular possessives ending in ’s, plural possessives such as ladies’ and years’, irregular plural nouns such as children and women, and nouns with unchanged singular and plural forms such as bass. The worksheet includes a complete answer key for efficient review and grading.

This Grade 5–6 English worksheet uses 9 multiple-choice questions to have students identify singular nouns, plural nouns, singular possessive nouns, and plural possessive nouns in sentences. Students must distinguish forms such as dog’s and nurse’s from plural possessives such as ladies’ and years’, while also recognizing irregular plurals such as children and women and deciding when the correct answer is “none.”
Introduce the worksheet by having students identify the noun first, then ask whether it names one, more than one, or shows ownership. Model how dog’s and year’s indicate singular possession, while ladies’ and years’ indicate plural possession, and discuss why Mom’s and aunt’s do not satisfy the plural-possessive questions. Students can then complete the multiple-choice items and explain the word ending or noun form that supports each choice.
Students may treat every word ending in ’s as a plural possessive, even though the worksheet uses dog’s, nurse’s, year’s, Mom’s, and aunt’s as singular possessives. They may also overlook irregular or unchanged plurals, such as children, women, and bass, or select an apostrophe word when the sentence contains no noun of the requested type. Review the “none” answers in the questions about Mom’s and aunt’s and about pilot’s chair to reinforce careful word-by-word checking.
The Singular and Plural Possessive Nouns worksheet is available as a printable PDF and as a digital quiz on Wayground, with a complete answer key for all 9 multiple-choice questions. Printable submissions can be graded by scanning student work with the Wayground for Teachers app. The PDF option also supports schools that want to reduce screen time while students practise noun forms.
Use the worksheet’s Advanced Settings to adjust font spacing and font size so the sentence-based multiple-choice items are easier to scan. You can also enable a dyslexia-friendly font or translate the worksheet into another language, while keeping the noun-identification format and answer choices intact.
