EIGHT PARTS OF SPEECH is a Grade 3 English worksheet that helps students identify the roles of the eight parts of speech: nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections. Students answer eight multiple-choice questions by matching each part of speech to its definition, such as naming a person, place, thing, or idea; showing action; replacing a noun; expressing strong emotion; or connecting words and groups of words. This free printable worksheet gives students focused practice distinguishing related grammar terms and recalling what each part of speech does in a sentence. It works well for introducing the categories, reviewing them after instruction, or checking individual understanding before students identify parts of speech in complete sentences. An answer key is included for efficient review and grading.

This Grade 3 worksheet covers identifying nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections from their definitions. Its eight multiple-choice items ask students to connect each term with a function, such as naming a person, place, thing, or idea; describing a noun or pronoun; showing action; or expressing strong emotion.
Introduce the eight terms with a simple anchor chart showing each part of speech and its role, then have students use the worksheet definitions to select an answer. Afterward, ask students to explain why choices such as noun versus pronoun or adjective versus adverb fit the definitions, and follow up by having them find those parts of speech in their own sentences.
Students may confuse a noun, which names a person, place, thing, or idea, with a pronoun, which takes the place of a noun. They may also select an adjective when the item describes a verb, adjective, or another adverb, or confuse prepositions that show relationships with conjunctions that connect words or groups of words. Watch for students choosing a verb only because they recognize an action-related word without checking the full definition.
