Lars Jensen and his wife, Karen, and their two children, Peter and Mathilde sailed from Denmark to America to make a better life. 

They took a train to Minnesota where Lars bought a wagon and other travel supplies. 

They joined up with other travelers and told stories by the campfire and even found a pet dog they named Fido.

One day their wagon axle broke by a river and they decided to stay awhile. 

By winter they had planted food, built a cabin, and a shed.  

In spring Lars started a business by building a ferry that helped wagons cross the river.  

A blacksmith named Franz stayed to build a forge. 

Soon a lumberman came to cut down trees for houses, farmers started planting more food, and Lars opened a General Store. 

Years later more and more people came to live in New Hope, they built a bridge, and the stage coach started coming through, soon they had The New Hope Hotel. 

New Hope became busy with a wagon builder, bank, stable, barbershop, newspaper, and church. 

In 1900 Mathilde married Franz's son Heinrich and he ran a tannery where he made things out of leather. 

In 1910 Mathilde's little boy Hans was 4 years old and the railroad had started going through New Hope. Many more citizens decided to live in New Hope.

Jimmy learns from his Grandpa that his great-great-great-grandfather is Lars Jensen. The man who started New Hope!
