Honored his sons above his devotion to God

 Man after God’s own heart 

 No heart for God as he continued to make decisions that went against what God told him

Was recognized as a boy as “hearing” from God

Was told his kingdom would last forever 

Was told obedience was better than sacrifice—when he did not destroy the Amalekites 

Was told his kingdom would be torn from him after his death because of his father

Was told there would not be an old man in his family

Offered sacrifices instead of waiting for the priest/prophet/judge 

 Heart was turned from God to idols 

 Was dedicated as a boy to God by his mother 

Saw the ripple effect of his actions on his family even though he was forgiven

Said “create in me a clean heart…”

 Cared more about what the people said about him than God

 Was told a story of a rich and poor man to show him his wrong by taking another man’s wife

 Had both sons die on the same day and the ark was captured 

Wrote most of the Psalms 

 Writer of only one Psalm but many Proverbs 

Was the wisest man of the East 

 Was the last Judge 

 Was head and shoulders taller than anyone else

 Had God appear to him twice 

 Died of a broken neck

Had his spirit called up after death
